‘50 Shades of Grey’ movie delayed till 2015 after actor switch

If there is one movie that has been in the news for its pre-production episodes as much as for its tumultuous casting ups and downs, it has to be ’50 shades of Grey’. Based on the novel by E.L. James, this erotic piece revolves around the sadomasochistic love affair between billionaire, debonair businessman and petite college student Anastasia Steele. Though the relationship is bound by non-disclosure agreements from Grey’s end, the docile college girl who is seduced by the charms of this dapper businessman probably ends up expecting a lot more and that is how she ends up hurting herself.
With such a seductive and passionate storyline, readers were already hopeful of their choices for Mr. Grey. But quite surprisingly the role first went to the ‘Sons of Anarchy’ regular cast member, Charlie Hunnam but he supposedly ‘got cold feet’ and backed out of the project only recently. This sudden overture, send the fans of ‘50 Shades’ and Charlie Hunnam into a fit, till the role went to a former Calvin Klein model, Jamie Dornan. If the rumour mills are to be believed, this is the reason that the shoot of this film has been delayed and the release date has now been pushed back to February 2015.
The female fans, as all can guess, are definitely not happy with this recent announcement. Some Hollywood stalwarts and trade analysts also feel that this could be a risky move for the venture since, February marks the month when Hollywood releases its most unambitious projects. The film, like any other money making venture was supposed to release in August 2014, which is the favourable time to release movies as the summer months are great for box office collections. Feeling the film would lose out on a huge opportunity, and also having to wait for all these extra months, the female fans are up-in-arms, not literally, but their chosen platforms for this outburst are the social networking sites.
Though February is the month of love and to some, the story of Ana and Christian is a love story, still, it is not known when in February is this film finally going to see the light of day. Some sources have hinted that it might be the eponymous day of love or Valentine’s Day. And some quarters are saying that it can be either a day before or after Valentine’s Day. But among all this talk of love, the mushiness is seldom seen in Grey and Ana’s relationship. Their love is more like a business arrangement and Grey sees Ana just as a business deal.
The main reason of the delay can be blamed on the last minute actor switch, but when you get a Calvin Klein model in exchange, can the fans really stay mad at the casting team? Well, definitely not for long. The film is probably the most anticipated film now, and the real reason of this can never be pin pointed. No matter what it is, when you put E.L. James’s narrative, Dakota Johnson’s coy looks and Jamie Dornan’s dapper appeal together, sparks are sure to fly.

A New Character in Fifty Shades of Grey as Mrs. Robinson

When E. L. James had written her BDSM themed erotic novel, ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’, little had she known that it would sweep her fans off their feet and would attract Hollywood studios to make a cinematic adaptation out of it? But as history speaks for itself, it is widely anticipated that the movie would do as well as the novel. The novel has pushed major authors off the list of the highest earning authors and this year, E.L. James has emerged victorious in the top spot. The novel, though themed around BDSM, is essentially a love story between Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele.
The ‘50 Shades’ movie is probably one of the most widely awaited movies of the year and unlike some other movies, it is already famous. Famous because of its constant cast changes and cast additions, the ‘50 Shades’ movie, is all set to have another addition to its star cast in the form of Katie Holmes. The erstwhile star of films like, ‘Teaching Mrs. Tingle’ and television series like ‘Dawson’s Creek’, Holmes is also publicly known for her split from ex-husband Tom Cruise and her views on Scientology. Otherwise known in the novel as Mrs. Robinson, Katie’s character Elena Lincoln is one who had considerable sexual control on Christian Grey when he was a teen and is the one responsible for introducing him to the pains and pleasures of BDSM
Anastasia Steele on the other hand is the naive and docile female protagonist who falls for the cold and calculating Christian Grey, with being oblivious to his history and fetish for S&M. The shy and docile Anastasia Steele slowly falls for the suave businessman but at the end of the first part of the 50 shades trilogy, ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’, it is Anastasia Steele who leaves Christian Grey knowing only well that this arrangement and a relationship literally and figuratively bound by non-disclosure agreements might not work.
‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ offers a different dimension to the acting capabilities of Katie Holmes and although the character Elena Lincoln is as dark and manipulative as Christian, she is also essentially the femme fatale of the novel and the ‘50 Shades movie. The character in the novel, Mrs. Robinson is a natural blonde and is in her late 30s and early 40s; two of these components can be challenging for Katie Holmes, since she is not a natural blonde and is only 34 years old. But if the rumor mills and the grapevine is to be believed, she is going all out to make herself as close to the character as possible, even possibly suggesting that she might turn blonde to fit the bill.
The bitter divorce might have left the mother of one with a bad taste in the mouth but the ‘50 Shades’ movie, is touted to be her ticket back to mainstream Hollywood. And if her efforts are anything to go by, she will make a ravishing and a delicious Elena Lincoln as Mrs. Robinson.

“50 Shades Movie” finds Christian’s romantic rival – Victor Rasuk will play Ana’s college friend Jose

In the E. L. James novel “Fifty Shades of Grey”, the sparks are set to fly between Anastasia Steele and Christian Grey. But there is another relationship which has the potential of sparking a different kind of equation. The relationship between Christian and Jose is far from romantic. In fact both have their eyes on the leading lady Ana. It is Ana who has to decide who will get her heart. But even when she starts a physical relationship with Christian bordering on BDSM, he does not want it to be a romantic relationship. The casting team of “Fifty Shades of Grey” has won another pat on their backs for choosing an actor like Victor Rasuk for the role. Choosing Victor for this role is all the more significant because they would need an actor who fits the description and the cultural bill of the character of Jose Rodriguez. And all this and more is present in oodles in Victor. The third wheel of the novel and the film adaptation, Victor comes from a Dominican background and with his Latin American/Spanish looks (not stereotypical though), is one of the better parts of the venture so far.Though the movie and the book are both billed as an erotic love story, the theme of friendship is also masterfully entwined within the plot. The friendship that Ana shares with Kate and Jose makes up for an interesting premise of the novel. Though the friendship that Jose has for Ana borders on love and infatuation, it is never truly explored in the novel, and the readers probably go home with the idea that Christian wins on account of his mysterious ways and the raw power he exhibits in the boardroom and the bedroom. But hopefully, Victor’s portrayal of Jose will win some sympathizers for the latter. The clash between the two alpha males of the novel, Christian and Jose, is introduced in a subtle manner by the author, when Christian goes on a coffee date with Ana right after the photo shoot with Jose, Ana and Kate, and asks her if she is dating someone. By someone, he meant Jose. Probably he had sensed that Jose would be a strong contender as a love interest of Ana. The chemistry between Jose, Kate and Ana seemingly borders on the platonic but Jose has an anguished lover’s heart that beats for Anastasia Steele, which can be sniffed out by the other strong contender, Christian. If only, Ana would have sensed it and shared the feelings.

Casting news of fifty shades of grey

Fifty Shades movie is based on the ‘Fifty Shadesof Grey’ written by E L James. It is a bestselling erotic novel. The novel presents a sadomasochistic romance between Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele. The wealthy Christian Grey is dominant and his sex partner Ana is submissive. She is a college girl of 21 years. The production unit of the movie was searching for a perfect person to play the lead roles in the Fifty Shades Movie. After a prolonged period of speculations and discussions, it was decided that Charlie Hunnam would play the role of Christian Grey and Dakota Johnson would play the role of Anastasia Steele.
The speculation about who would play Christian Grey was at peak intensity even in March 2012. A million names were discussed and E L James finally locked down her on screen Anastasia Steel and Christian Grey on September 2. She announced that ‘Dakota Johnson and Charlie Hunnam have been cast to play the converted roles of in the film adaptation of her erotic love story’.  Dakota, who is the daughter of Don Johnson and Melanie Griffith, is best known for her starring role on the now-defunct Fox sitcom Ben & Kate.
Charlie Hunnam also had agreed to play the role of kinky billionaire Christian Grey in the Fifty Shades movie, but on October 13 along with the production team, he announced that he has parted ways with the movie. According to Hunnam, he has denied the lead role due to his ‘immerse TV schedule. He has assured the production team that he also would help them in finding a perfect star for the Fifty Shades movie. Charlie Hunnam had received criticism from the fans and experts in casting in this film. They said that he is not sexy enough to handle such a high profile job. The fans did not spare Dakota Johnson too, but she is still in the movie.
It has assumed that Charlie Hunnam walked away from the Fifty Shades movie after developing ‘cold feet’ because of extreme attention from fans. He is a man who does not like to be famous. He isn’t the only one who feels pressure about his role. Dakota Johnson, contracted to play Ana in the adaptation of the bestseller also is reportedly having problems with the media attention from her casting. The twenty four year old actress feels pressure about the hotly-discussed role. Fans were not thrilled when it was announced that Charlie Hunnam and Dakota Johnson would play the lead roles in the film. The announcement was received with lukewarm response. They seriously doubt her potential of being the sex slave of Christian Grey. The angry fans of the trilogy took to the campaigning web platform to express their unhappiness at the casting. The trilogy has huge fans support as 70m copies of it were sold worldwide.
Though Charlie has walked away from the movie, Dakota Johnson would play the role of Anastasia Steele as scheduled if nothing drastic takes place over the coming days.

Charlie Hunnam drops out of 'Fifty Shades of Grey': Fan Power?

Can be new Entrance in Fifty Shades
Fifty Shades of Grey is a scheduled to be produced by Universal Pictures. The movie is based on the erotic best-selling novel written by E L James. It was decided that Charlie Hunnam would play the lead role in the film along with Dakota Johnson, but the film makers and Charlie Hunnam agreed to find another actor to replace him. It was announced by the Universal Pictures on October 13.
Fifty Shades of Grey tells the story of a college student, Anastasia. She starts a love relationship with Christian Grey, a very successful businessman of 27 years. Their relationship started when she interviewed him for her college newspaper. Eventually, Anastasia lost her virginity to him. In order to keep their relationship purely sexual, he wants her to sign a secret agreement. He defines their relationship as one of ‘dominance and submission’. There is a lot of tension in the novel over the nature of relationship and the possibility love and romance. The novel also gives importance to Anastasia’s sexual explorations. It is a very popular novel with thousands of fans.
Charlie Hunnam, a busy English actor and a screen writer stated that he would not able to play the lead role due to his ‘immerse TV schedule’. The main character in the novels is very famous and could make a lasting impact on the minds of the viewers. The confirmation of his casting was announced only a month before and there were a lot of rumours about who would win this coveted role. Charlie Hunnam feels that his busy schedule does not allow him to adequately prepare for the role of Christian Grey which is in his opinion is very demanding. He also has assured that he would help the filmmakers to find a proper replace for him in the film.
When it was confirmed that he would play the lead role in the movie, it suffered a backlash from the fans. The fans wanted actors like Robert Pattinson or Ran Goseling to play the role of Christian Grey in the film. Not everyone who read the novel had imagined Charlie Hunnam as ChristianGrey. They feel that Charlie Hunnam is not sexy enough to play the role and their response was lukewarm. In fact, they were disappointed. Dakota Johnson also is criticized for the same reason, but as of now she stands to play the role of Ana in the movie. The critics feel that the drop out could be the power of fans.

There are reports which confirm that Charlie Hunnam actually got ‘cold feet’ and dropped out of playing the controversial role. These reports stress that it had nothing to do with immerse TV schedule. The pressure of playing one of the coveted roles also is attributed as the reason behind the drop out. Charlie Hunnam has said that the pressure of the film was ‘daunting if I think it was too much’. Now the filmmakers should start afresh if Dakota Johnson also decides to pull out of the film.

Dakota with Charlie in Fifty Shades of Grey Movie

It's the Movie Fifty Shades everyone wants to be in - Fifty Shades of Grey is the book that everyone is talking about and is now being made by Universal Pictures and Focus Features into a feature film. The erotic trilogy by E.L. James tells us of an unconventional love story between dominant, handsome, billionaire Charlie Hunnam as Christian Grey who has some rather kinky and perverse tastes in the bedroom, whereas his object of desire, Dakota Johnson as Anastasia Steele is an innocent, 21-year-old virgin who has a love of British classics and likes to drink tea. This unsuspecting pair end up in a violently passionate relationship full of elating highs, crashing lows and earth-shattering sex. Anastasia Steele is described as being a thin, pale girl with long dark hair and blue eyes that are too big for her face. Almost every actress in Hollywood wants the part, from the big, worldly stars like Angelina Jolie and Scarlett Johansson, to lesser-known actresses like Lily Collins and Alexis Bledel. However, it seems one actress has taken the lead in the candidacy for Anastasia Steele in the movie version of Fifty Shades of Grey - Katie Cassidy.

The 25-year-old actress has recently appeared in Gossip Girl and Melrose Place will have to compete with actresses such as Emma Stone, Emma Watson and Pretty Little Liars star Lucy Hale for the role of submissive Anastasia Steele. Emma Watson has revealed to the media that she hasn't been approached for the role nor has she read the script, despite the countless rumors on the Internet about her involvement in the movie, but that doesn't mean the Harry Potter starlet is out of the running. Actors for the role of Greek god and sadistic CEO Christian Grey include fan favorites Ryan Gosling of The Notebook fame, Ian Somerhalder from the Vampire Diaries, and Swedish True Blood Hunk Alexander Skarsgard. Channing Tatum's name was also linked to the part, but he mentioned in an interview that he'd only agree to do the part if his wife Jenna Dewan were cast opposite him as Anastasia."I'd only be allowed if my wife was Ana," says the Magic Mike star, "She's read the books so I don't think she'd be impressed if she couldn't be Ana." With Universal Pictures and Focus Features priority lying with finding a screenwriter and a director first, it looks like we'll have to wait until we get our Anastasia Steele and Christian Grey.

Fifty Shades Of Grey Casts Charlie Hunnam And Dakota Johnson

Fifty Shades’ Screenwriter – Kelly Marcel

Another British part of the Fifty movie madness, is the screenwriter, Kelly Marcel. With British actor, Charlie Bad Boy Hunman playing Christian, Sam Taylor-Johnson is the British Director, it perhaps was only natural the movie would be mainly British.

The screenwriter is the person who brings the book to the big screen. So let’s take a look at how Kelly Marcel has planned her adaptation of the erotic film from the book to the big screen. Screen adaptations aren’t easy, books have to be edited down for screen purposes, and hence why many people state a film is never as good as the book.

The film is going to be rated NC-17 (UK – 18) for the movie’s material content. There’s no surprise there then, we never expected it to be anything less, but the burning question is, will the book remain loyal to its raunchy roots?

Kelly has been quoted as stating that the movie has been edited, no surprise there then, but what is the story?  Kelly has stated that the movie is “a modern love story with two complex characters and that’s what I am interested in”

Kelly has admitted some of the raunchier scenes have been edited down, but the storyline remains intact. She’s also stated that she has had to take top measure to keep the script secret as Fifty fans scrabble for information.

Marcel is no stranger to screenwriting. She is the co-creator of Steven Spielberg’s Terra Nova, a highly successful TV drama. She has been primarily involved with TV and film and is the co-director with Tom Hardy of The Bad Dog Theater Company. She is 39-years old and her rise to screenwriting came from her stage adaption of the 70s porn movie, “Debbie Does Dallas” (Grins)

Her older sister is a well-known TV actress in the UK and her father is a director.  Kelly has also been in front of the screen with small parts on British TV regular serial dramas.  She is also the screenwriter of the pending Saving Mr Banks film which takes a look at the popularity of Mary Poppins and stars Tom Hanks.

The hiring of Ms Marcel took considerable criticism from American Brett Easton Ellis who applied for the role and he took to Twitter to share his disappointment in October of last year. He made no bones of the fact that he was disappointed and in fact was pretty scathing about Marcel’s appointment. Dear oh dear.

The producers who were behind The Social Network have acclaimed Marcel’s skills as a scriptwriter and soon Easton-Ellis’s comments were buried under other tweets. We don’t think the uber-cool Ms Marcel’s feathers were too ruffled, she is a cool British woman who very much displayed her stiff upper lip throughout Easton-Ellis’s mini rant about his disappointment.

Note: The Social Network connection and our newly cast Anastasia?  Yes, don’t forget, Dakota Johnson was in the movie.

Kelly Marcel is responsible for getting this movie from book to screen, we think she will do a great job and this is going to be a massive part of her resume.

Can she bring the worlds most talked about couple to the big screen for us to flock to?
