‘50 Shades of Grey’ movie delayed till 2015 after actor switch

If there is one movie that has been in the news for its pre-production episodes as much as for its tumultuous casting ups and downs, it has to be ’50 shades of Grey’. Based on the novel by E.L. James, this erotic piece revolves around the sadomasochistic love affair between billionaire, debonair businessman and petite college student Anastasia Steele. Though the relationship is bound by non-disclosure agreements from Grey’s end, the docile college girl who is seduced by the charms of this dapper businessman probably ends up expecting a lot more and that is how she ends up hurting herself.

With such a seductive and passionate storyline, readers were already hopeful of their choices for Mr. Grey. But quite surprisingly the role first went to the ‘Sons of Anarchy’ regular cast member, Charlie Hunnam but he supposedly ‘got cold feet’ and backed out of the project only recently. This sudden overture, send the fans of ‘50 Shades’ and Charlie Hunnam into a fit, till the role went to a former Calvin Klein model, Jamie Dornan. If the rumour mills are to be believed, this is the reason that the shoot of this film has been delayed and the release date has now been pushed back to February 2015.

The female fans, as all can guess, are definitely not happy with this recent announcement. Some Hollywood stalwarts and trade analysts also feel that this could be a risky move for the venture since, February marks the month when Hollywood releases its most unambitious projects. The film, like any other money making venture was supposed to release in August 2014, which is the favourable time to release movies as the summer months are great for box office collections. Feeling the film would lose out on a huge opportunity, and also having to wait for all these extra months, the female fans are up-in-arms, not literally, but their chosen platforms for this outburst are the social networking sites.

Though February is the month of love and to some, the story of Ana and Christian is a love story, still, it is not known when in February is this film finally going to see the light of day. Some sources have hinted that it might be the eponymous day of love or Valentine’s Day. And some quarters are saying that it can be either a day before or after Valentine’s Day. But among all this talk of love, the mushiness is seldom seen in Grey and Ana’s relationship. Their love is more like a business arrangement and Grey sees Ana just as a business deal.

The main reason of the delay can be blamed on the last minute actor switch, but when you get a Calvin Klein model in exchange, can the fans really stay mad at the casting team? Well, definitely not for long. The film is probably the most anticipated film now, and the real reason of this can never be pin pointed. No matter what it is, when you put E.L. James’s narrative, Dakota Johnson’s coy looks and Jamie Dornan’s dapper appeal together, sparks are sure to fly.
