Fifty Shades of Richness: E.L. James makes £90k a day from Fifty Shades of Grey

E. L. James, the author of the bestselling novel Fifty Shades of Grey has earned £33 million in just one year- which works out as £90,000 a day, marking the tremendous popularity of her erotic trilogy among reader worldwide. E.L James the author of the steamy trilogy made almost four times more than the total earnings for the Harry Potter books of JK Rowling in the same year. So does this make the erotic novelist Britain’s most successful writer?

According to the latest accounts filed at the Companies House show that, 51-year-old business, Fifty Shades Ltd, made £43.9 million in the year to September 2013 – with pre-tax profits of £33.4 million. Profits after tax were £25.5 million. The money came from the world-wide sales of the bestselling trilogy. In February it was reported that the she has now sold 100 million copies of the books including 27 million in the UK and is set to earn even more cash when the film adaption starring Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan is released in 2015. She has also made money from the film rights and merchandise as she launched two branded wines Red Satin and White Satin.

Earlier last year, E.L. James came in third place in Forbes 2013 list of the top- earning celebrities taking home £70 million, which included £4 million accruing from the sale of the film rights to her trilogy that is being translated into blockbuster directed by Sam Taylor-Wood. TheFifty Shades Trilogy won the titles of “Popular Fiction Book of the Year” and “Book of the Year” at the National Book Awards (UK).  James said commenting on the outstanding success of her books “The explosion of interest has taken me completely by surprise,” before describing the Fifty Shades trilogy as “my midlife crisis, writ large. All my fantasies in there, and that’s it”.

Rowling for “Harry Potter” series. On second position is James Oliver followed by Jacqueline Collins. The author of the best selling trilogy was born as Erika Mitchell in London. Before her success with writing she was a T V executive. The 51-year-old author and Naill her husband, who is also a novelist, said that despite of their newfound wealth they are still maintaining a down-to-earth lifestyle and lives in a six-bedroom property in a west London.

The Movie Fifty Shades of Grey is a love tale, which is based around a sadomasochistic millionaire called Christian Grey, who falls in love with and seduces a younger woman Anastasia Steele, who is a virginal college graduate. The Fifty Shades ofGrey movie will hit the theatres on February 13, 2015. The role of 27-year-old Christian Grey will be played by Jamie Dornan and the role of Anastasia Steele will be played by Dakota Johnson.

Marcia Gay Harden on ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ co-star Jamie Dornan

When you rope in an Oscar winner for your movie, it really makes people sit up and take notice. And the same can be said about The Movie Fifty shades of grey adaptation too. And if you still don’t know who we are talking about, what can we say apart from shame on you! The person we are referring to is none other than Marcia Gay Harden, who won her Oscar for the best supporting actress when she appeared in the movie “Pollock” as Lee Krasner.

She plays the role of Christian Grey’s step mother in the movie and when talking about her screen step son, the first thing that she talks about is the aura of mystery that surrounds Jamie, which stems from the fact that Jamie has been really elusive while he was shooting for Movie FiftyShades, and that included no red carpet walks or talking to the media about the coveted role he landed. Marcia defends the mysterious quality in her co-star, Dornan saying that it is essential to have someone mysterious and not with too much pedigree. If the person has a lot of pedigree then it would make it impossible for the others to stop thinking about that pedigree, says the 54 year old.

Thinking constantly about the pedigree is almost impossible in a film and difficult for the role too, Marcia adds. When Marcia was asked what she would like to share about her hunk of a co-star, the mother of three’s pat reply was that he is beautiful, and no, she did not stop there! She went on to add that he is a ‘chiseled beauty’, which is eaten up by the camera.

She further notes that he is an ‘Irish boy’, an actor based in the U.K., who recently had a baby with singer-songwriter wife, Amelia Warner, a sweet guy, who surfs and occasionally “sings little Irish ditties”. When Marcia Gay Harden was asked about her role in this erotically charged movie adaptation and playing step mother to the pivotal character of the novel and the movie, who is a successful entrepreneur but also a bad boy of sorts because of his penchant for BDSM, she mentions that her scenes in this Sam Taylor-Wood directed venture are “more PG-rated”. She joked that if an actor is not in the red room of pain with “some naked flesh” in the face and “a sex toy in hand” this movie, and shooting for it is pretty much like doing any other movie.

She adds that she is the mom, she’s “momma Grey”. Marcia, who plays the role of Dr. Grace Trevelyan Grey in this movie, had mentioned earlier something about Jamie breaking into “Irish ditties” and when she spoke at length about it, she mentioned that Jamie Dornan was known to sing, Rita Ora’s songs between takes! Yes, you heard her right! Incidentally, Rita plays his adoptive sister in the movie, and if that’s the reason why he sang her songs or not, we don’t know, and neither does Dr. Grey (we are hoping)!

But given that Jamie has two singles to his credit, it makes it easier for us to believe that he can sing and his songs were anything but torture on Marcia’s eardrums. Right, Marcia?

Movie Fifty shades of grey” Wraps Up Filming So a Trailer Should Be Released Any Day

Finally the news that every fan and follower of ‘The Movie Fifty Shades …’ was waiting for. The shooting of the BDSM drama/romance has wrapped up and this means that we are one step closer to the final product which has been delivered by the continuing efforts of the cast and the crew of this

movie, adapted from the erotic novel of the same name written by British author E.L. James. At the wrap of the shoot in Vancouver, Canada, the author, who is incidentally also one of the producers, shared a picture via Twitter, where she posed with the director of the movie, Sam Taylor-Johnson.

The caption of the snap read, “And that’s a wrap…” she also added, “The night is young….” Till the time the movie was being shot in Vancouver, we were constantly in touch with the latest happenings in the department of which scene of the movie was being shot and who was present. From what the actors wore to who said what and all the gossip from behind the scenes, some of us are going to miss these updates.

But we also have one very positive thing to look forward to and that is The Movie Fifty shades of grey itself. Some sources are saying that with the movie wrapping up earlier than scheduled, it might release earlier than expected. With the movie already ready for release the fans are also wishing that there might be a chance that the promos or the trailers of the venture can be seen a little earlier too. With a fan made trailer already released and being viewed by fans and followers, the studios should sit up, take notice and devise a suitable plan of action. The posters (two official ones) are screaming that the film will be released on the 13th of February 2015, a day before Valentine’s Day.

We do know that the film might not come across as a romantic comedy or any aspect of a mushy love story might not be visible to us, from the scenes which have been shot, but the lead pair of Christian Grey and Ana do develop feelings for each other and those feelings transform from related to their BDSM inspired lovemaking to some genuine feelings they develop for each other.

50 Shades of grey’ movie trailer to be released sooner than expected as filming comes to an end?

First, it was the uncertain star cast and then it was the release date and now finally, when the shooting of the film adaptation of Erica James’ racy novel “Fifty Shades of Grey” has come close to wrapping up, the fans are hopeful that a trailer will be released to suffice their growing eagerness. We have been kept updated about the scenes (outdoor, of course) which the cast and crew have been shooting in Vancouver and now when the producer of the film, Dana Brunetti has announced through Facebook that this the last week of shooting “Fifty Shades...” and the shoot will be wrapped up by the 23^rd of February 2014, the fans are keeping their fingers crossed to watch the trailer of the racy adaptation of an equally racy novel.

With the shooting almost on the verge of wrapping up, we can also be hopeful that there will be no further delay, in releasing the film, than the already scheduled 13^th of February 2015. Though almost a year is still left to go and the fans and the followers of the trilogy have to wait with bated breath, only a trailer can make this wait a little more bearable. For the fans of this money spinning novel, the wait to see the movie on the big screen started with the very announcement that the characters of Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele will make progress from the pages of the book to the screen.

Fifty Shades of Grey Star Jamie Dornan Admits He's No Hugh Grant As He Opens Up On New Role

We already know that Jamie Dornan has taken over from Charlie Hunnam as the lead actor in the “Fifty shades movie” but this is not his only claim to fame role. The actor, who has already appeared in television serials such as “The Fall” and “Once Upon a Time”, will now be seen in a new role. The 31 year old actor is to feature in the historical drama called “New Worlds”, where he plays the role of a young idealist in the Restoration period. In “New Worlds”, he is set appear alongside the likes of Freya Mavor, Alice Englert and Joe Dempsie.

But “Fifty Shades...” and “New Worlds” are not the only two things which are keeping him busy these days. The actor will also return to film the second season of his hot television series “The Fall” in Belfast. The father of one and former Calvin Klein model has, however, divulged that playing the role of the young idealist in “New Worlds” which is set in the Restoration period entailed him to work on his English accent.

When it comes to the “Fifty shades movie” franchise, the excitement just keeps getting better with each passing day and if the shooting scenes of the movie are to be considered, then we already have a handful of scenes which have sparked off interest and excitement in our hearts, from the very first time they surfaced. The first scene which caught our attention was definitely the scene and like all the other scenes which have followed, this scene too carried an undercurrent of tension between the lead characters of Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele, played by Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson.

The Movie FiftyShades scene, Ana can be seen dressed in a gray dress and her dominant partner, Mr. Grey, as always, was in a customised suit. The scene unfolds in a romantic way with Jamie, as Christian Grey, leading Dakota (Ana) to her gift, while placing his hands firmly on her eyes. As she opens her eyes, she is surprised to find her gift, which she quickly renames ‘The Submissive Special’. The fact to be noted here is that Grey gifts this car as he thinks her old VW, called Wanda, is not safe enough. ‘Fifty Shades of Grey' Movie Cast Celebrates Luke Grimes' Birthday

The “Fifty Shades...” cast got a taste of a little celebration when they got together to celebrate the 30th birthday of fellow cast member, Luke Grimes. Luke, like Jamie Dornan has been a regularly watched face on the television as he appeared in the television series, “True Blood” and “Brothers & Sisters”. The actor, celebrated his birthday on the 21^st of this month with fellow cast members. Rita Ora, Max Martini, Marcia Gay Harden and the author of the trilogy, Erica James were all present at Yaletown restaurant to have some food and peach schnapps and celebrate his birthday in a good old fashion with food and drinks and of course plenty of snaps. 

It was Oscar winner Marcia Gay Harden, who circulated the snaps through her Twitter account and now that the actor is a part of the film that has got everybody talking, he can expect glorious things to come his way, in his career of course. The now 30 year old actor plays the role of Elliot Grey in the movie version of “FiftyShades....” and is the adopted brother of the self made billionaire Christian Grey. Incidentally, Luke aka Elliott falls for Kate Kavanagh, who happens to be the best friend and the roommate of Anastasia Steele, the same girl, Christian Grey falls for and eventually develops a relationship with.

Eventually, in the course of the trilogy, both the brothers get married to their love interests, but that happens over the course of the next two novels, which, chances are, you might not get a taste of in this movie adaptation, as this one concentrates on the first novel itself. Though there were rumours that this movie will see an amalgamation of all the three novels, and this rumour was sparked when news surfaced that the cast and the production team was heading to Spain, especially the Canary Islands to shoot the honeymoon scenes. Now for anyone who has read the trilogy, he/she knows that the honeymoon scenes occur only in the third novel of the trilogy. 

Fifty Shades of Grey' Movie Shooting Back In Vancouver

Having started the filming of the movie adaptation of the steamy and racy Fifty Shades of Grey movie by Erica James in Vancouver, in November, the actors and the crew had to face a wrathful and vindictive weather when the polar vortex started affecting huge climatic changes in the USA and Canada. Forced by the fury of nature, the cast and crew if this Sam Taylor-Jonson directed movie had to take a break for two weeks. And since it was the holiday season, nobody complained. The author and one of the producers, Erica James, spent the holidays with her husband and two sons, while the lead pair of Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan, who plays the roles of Ana and Christian in the movie, was also busy with their families.

Ana aka Dakota was reportedly seen spending time with her sisters and mother and also spent some alone time her real life Christian Grey, Jordan Masterson. Jamie Dornan became a first time father in December and his wife and he welcomed home their baby daughter. So, this break would have definitely given some family time to the Irish hunk, so that he could cuddle his newborn a little more. The other Grey, Mia Grey that is, who will be played by Rita Ora, was also seen partying with her friends in London, before she got called to Vancouver, to start her leg of the shoot. Fifty Shades of Grey film ‘will not condense three books into one movie’

The widely acclaimed “Fifty shades of grey movie” trilogy which made the author Erica James the highest earning author last year, was recently caught in the centre of some uncomfortable news. No sooner had the news spread that the lead pair of the film adaptation of the movie, Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson were heading to Spain to shoot the crucial honeymoon scenes for the movie, the rumour mills started working overtime to find out what the issue at hand was. '50 Shades of Grey' Insider Spills Juicy Details of First Day on Set

We have heard of the saying ‘morning shows the day’ and if that is anything to go by, we have a lot to look forward to in the ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ movie adaptation. The first scene shot in a coffee shop outside the purported building housing the Grey Enterprises, the telecom company owned by the self-made billionaire Christian Grey, showed the protagonists enjoying coffee in an informal setting while exchanging the contract. Hence, Sam Taylor-Johnson concluded the shooting of the crucial ‘contract scene’ on the very first leg of the production of the movie based on the BDSM inspired novel by Erica James. Though the cafe owner found the actors in high spirits, he had to supply at least 44 cups of lattes to make the scene as impeccable as it can be.

And at the end of the day, the entire cast and crew of the movie was seen enjoying the 44 cups of lattes, and given that the weather was cold indeed, no one seemed to complain. Sam Taylor-Johnson is such a director, who demands each scene be etched in the best possible manner and hence it was in accordance to her wishes that the cafe owner had to supply 44 cups of lattes in between the shots and the actors to get the shot right. And later when Dakota Johnson (as Anastasia Steele) leaves the cafe and plants a kiss on the cheek of her equally good looking co-star, Jamie Dornan (as Christian Grey), his look of confusion is caught brilliantly by this director.

The director has been a part of this project since its inception and when the first day of the shoot ends on such a note of success, it marks a remarkable achievement for the director and the crew alike. But now that the shooting has finally started, many fans can finally heave a sigh of relief because it means that the film would eventually release on the projected date of 13^th February 2015. The date is a long way to go, but the flicker of hope has not died down. Though not a love story in the classical sense, it will still be a movie to look forward to by couples in the Valentine’s Day weekend 2015.

Why the 'Fifty Shades of Grey' Movie is Doomed

Is ‘doomed’ too strong a word to anticipate the fate of the film ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’? The movie adaptation of the E.L. James novel has seen quite a lot of highs and lows even before the shooting started and everything from casting to release dates have been in a state of constant turmoil. To start from the beginning, Focus Features, which is a subsidiary of Universal Pictures, has reportedly handed out a whopping $ 5 million to E.L. James to purchase the movie rights from the author. And the total cost of the film is at a staggering $ 40 million and to recover the costs and declare the film to be a blockbuster, the film had to be released in August when most films have a fair chance of doing well in summer.

Instead of releasing the film in the summer, the film will instead see a February release at the Valentine’s Day weekend, but in the year 2015. The delay in the film has also thrown up a few questions regarding the future of the film. With fans already exasperated at having to wait for so long, the film is testing the patience of all fans, waiting with bated breath for the venture to finally see the light of day. In a fresh turn of events, it has surfaced that Patrick Marber will be putting a final polish to the script of the novel inspired movie, earlier written by Kelly Marcel.

The movie’s rating was also a cause of concern and finally it has been revealed that the film would get a NC-17 rating. This rating, many feel is a gateway to doomdom in the world of films and entertainment. Another piece of disturbing news surfaced when it was revealed that the director of the movie, Sam Taylor-Johnson’s husband would play the role of the title character Christian Grey. But some fans are thanking their stars this piece of news did not materialise. But the casting troubles for the character of Christian Grey were far from over.

Actors like Robert Pattinson, Ryan Gosling, Matt Bomer and more could not be roped in to play the character and finally the choice of the casting team was Charlie Hunnam, the star of ‘Sons of Anarchy’.  But fate was yet to play a cruel joke on the team again, when Hunnam walked away and the team was again running from pillar to post to look for the perfect replacement.
