When you take an
erotic novel and adapt it for the big screen, add an NC-17 rating to it and two
actors, who are uninhibited, you get a movie that will have love scenes. But
when you want to see love scenes acted aesthetically on the big screen, trust
Sam Taylor-Johnson to wield the director’s mantle. The erotic novel by Erica
James which has inspired the movie adaptation will be released on the 13th
of February 2015. The movie is famed to have many love making scenes and if you
have already picked your favourite and want to know whether it will find a
place in the adaptation or not. You just have to wait for a year or so before
the film finally releases.
The date of the
release has been pushed back to 13th February 2015 as it had to
battle sudden cast changes and entries and exits when it was in the
pre-production stage. TV actor of the series, ‘Sons of Anarchy’, Charlie Hunnam
was first chosen to play the role of the BDSM loving dominant billionaire,
Christian Grey. But as he left the project citing date issues, the role went to
Irish actor of the TV series, ‘Once Upon a Time’, Jamie Dornan. The role of
Anastasia Steele is being played by Dakota Johnson. Both Dakota and Jamie are
uninhibited in their approach to play the roles of Grey and Ana. Dakota had
read out a sexually explicit scene from the movie ‘Persona’ by Ingmar Bergman.
Jamie has said
that he has been brought up in a liberal environment where the sexual aspect of
love does not scandalize him. Dakota too feels that the novel offers a great
love story and a little bit of sex makes it even better! Among the loves scenes
that have already grabbed headlines, the most talked about is the scene where
Ana, the virginal beauty loses her virginity and the boathouse scene, where he
makes love to her in the boathouse as a punishment for not informing him about
her decision to go to Georgia to visit her mother. There is also a whisper that
the actors might appear in the nude and that the film will have two versions,
one is the explicit NC-17 rated version for the real fans, and a toned down
version which will be for audiences below the advisable age.
The team of the
movie has started shooting in Vancouver and in the two important scenes that
the lead actors have shot, their chemistry is pretty evident. The first scene
to be shot was the contract scene. In this scene, Grey hands over a contract
detailing the terms of their sexual alliance and as they leave a cafe, Ana
almost kisses him. But it turns out to be more like a peck on his cheeks. The
second scene in question is the one where Grey saves Ana from an oncoming biker
and they again almost kiss. As he pulls her into his arms, he looks deeply into
her eyes, but they don’t kiss. That looking deeply into her eyes convinces him
that there might be other feelings brewing in his heart. So, after all Erica
James has given us a love story!
