Henry Cavill Top Pick To Play Christian Grey

It would also require him to show a different set of skills than Cavill has used on film before. While the British actor’s film credentials are somewhat limited, it is not the past that is an issue when discussing his taking on Christian Grey. His present and the future are what would likely stop him from taking the role if it were offered. The lead role of the imposing and wealthy entrepreneur with a penchant for causing pain to his submissive, tormented (often pleasurably so) lover Anastasia could encompass three films, if it follows the books. Already in the likely position of having to anchor his own superhero series, and possibly the entire DC Comics film universe now that Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight Trilogy has been concluded, a commitment to another (possible) trilogy seems like a daunting task.

When asked about his interest in the role following upon the mass outpouring of support from fans, Cavill was hesitant to say much beyond how great of an opportunity getting the role would be for anyone. This diffidence regarding playing Christian is either well-hidden interest or mere Hollywood diplomacy, but does not speak well for the hopes of those in his camp.

Any perceived reticence to put himself out there publicly aside, the 6’1” Cavill certainly fits the bill for Christian as written by James. Describing him as merely physically fit would be a disservice to the actor. Courtesy of his superhero training regime and genetics, he would likely be capable of filling the role of an imposing and dominant sadist. His chiseled looks, which are only too easy to see as those of the dark-haired and charismatic Christian, could also provide his character with a suitable cover for the darkness inside (not altogether dissimilar to his dual role of Clark Kent and Superman).

The style the actor has shown as he promotes “Man of Steel,” looking dashing on every red carpet he has stepped upon, has also shown the world that the man looks as good in a tailored suit as a skintight costume or when shirtless. Sometimes fighting Superman is just a bad idea. Maybe this is one of those times, and Cavill truly is set to take over the world, proving himself as unstoppable as his soon-to-be-most-famous role.
