When you rope in an Oscar winner for
your movie, it really makes people sit up and take notice. And the same can be
said about The Movie Fifty shades of grey adaptation too. And if you still don’t
know who we are talking about, what can we say apart from shame on you! The
person we are referring to is none other than Marcia Gay Harden, who won her
Oscar for the best supporting actress when she appeared in the movie “Pollock”
as Lee Krasner.
She plays the role of Christian Grey’s step mother in the
movie and when talking about her screen step son, the first thing that she
talks about is the aura of mystery that surrounds Jamie, which stems from the fact that Jamie has been really elusive
while he was shooting for Movie FiftyShades, and that included no red carpet
walks or talking to the media about the coveted role he landed. Marcia defends
the mysterious quality in her co-star, Dornan
saying that it is essential to have someone mysterious and not with too much
pedigree. If the person has a lot of pedigree then it would make it impossible
for the others to stop thinking about that pedigree, says the 54 year old.
Thinking constantly about the pedigree
is almost impossible in a film and difficult for the role too, Marcia adds.
When Marcia was asked what she would like to share about her hunk of a co-star,
the mother of three’s pat reply was that he is beautiful, and no, she did not
stop there! She went on to add that he is a ‘chiseled beauty’, which is eaten
up by the camera.
She further notes that he is an ‘Irish
boy’, an actor based in the U.K., who recently had a baby with
singer-songwriter wife, Amelia Warner, a sweet guy, who surfs and occasionally
“sings little Irish ditties”. When Marcia Gay Harden was asked about her role
in this erotically charged movie adaptation and playing step mother to the
pivotal character of the novel and the movie, who is a successful entrepreneur
but also a bad boy of sorts because of his penchant for BDSM, she mentions that
her scenes in this Sam Taylor-Wood directed venture are “more PG-rated”. She
joked that if an actor is not in the red room of pain with “some naked flesh”
in the face and “a sex toy in hand” this movie, and shooting for it is pretty
much like doing any other movie.
She adds that she is the
mom, she’s “momma Grey”. Marcia, who
plays the role of Dr. Grace Trevelyan Grey
in this movie, had mentioned earlier something about Jamie breaking into
“Irish ditties” and when she spoke at length about it, she mentioned that Jamie Dornan was
known to sing, Rita Ora’s songs between takes! Yes, you heard her right!
Incidentally, Rita plays his adoptive sister in the movie, and if that’s the
reason why he sang her songs or not, we don’t know, and neither does Dr. Grey
(we are hoping)!
But given that Jamie has two
singles to his credit, it makes it easier for us to believe that he can sing
and his songs were anything but torture on Marcia’s eardrums. Right, Marcia?
